Squadron Band

Band is one of many activities that we do at our Squadron. You get taught the tricks of the trade of how to play one of the fine 7 instruments on offer by our wonderful Band Warrant Officer. He loves the saying 'Magic' because our band is magic. Our band is open to anyone on the squadron who wants to learn how to play an instrument, but if you don't choose what you want to play you will get stuck with a wonderful bugle which is always the cadets favourite.

Drums

The first instrument is the Bass drum this the most vital part of the band because this keeps everyone in step and keeps a constant pace. The second instrument is the tenor drum which is similar to the bass but the pitch is higher and then the last of the drums is the snare this is a drum with strands of snares made of curled metal pulled tight across the bottom skin underneath the drum. This drum makes the tunes along with the instruments that i will now go through.

Instruments

Bellior is a flat xylophone that makes nearly all of the tunes distinct by the sounds that are produced my hitting a Bellior with a small beater. This is backed up by the fifth instrument being the trumpet this is for the more experienced instrumentalist. But nearly all the trumpeters will have played a bugle which is where you will learn first of all how to play. And the final instrument which is the most boring is the symbols.

If you would like to see more pictures of when our band are in action either at remembrance parades or even Big Air Days such as Kemble see Gallery.
